I installed San Francisco as a system font, but I can't use it in any of the Creative Suite apps. Is there a way around this?

I recently upgraded my system font from Helvetica to San Francisco, but I can't use the San Francisco font in any of the Adobe Creative Suite apps (IE Photoshop, Illustrator, etc.). Is there a way for me to use it in these applications? If not, how do I get a copy that I can use in the Creative Suite?

Correct answer hitechshaley

What solution did you find? I stil can't seem to use SF font with my creative suite

Look for "SF UI Display" and "SF UI Text" in your font names. It's hopefully there, if it's installed right. I'm using XD, and I had been looking for San Francisco -- nothing. It was filed under the shorthand SF names. Good luck!

To get the Original SanFransisco Font to Photoshop or anywhere else:

  1. Go to your Finder and press Shift+Cmd+G
  2. Type in: /System/Library/Fonts/ and click on open.
  3. Select SFCompactDisplay-Black till SFCompactText-SemiboldItalic and Copy them.
  4. Go to your Downloads Folder, create a new Folder called "SF" and paste the selected fonts in.
  5. Open up your Font-Collection App.
  6. Click on the Plus button at the top bar.
  7. Select every Font in the "SF" folder which you have created before and click on open.
  8. Delete the "SF" folder, so you don't have to mess with it anymore.
  9. Enjoy the font and create great designs.

The Fonts are called

"SF Pro Display" and "SF Pro Text"

San Francisco is not a licensed font! (unlike the previous OS X Helvetica Neue)

Therefore no one can use it for design layouts etc.

SF was ONLY licensed for Developers' UI testing, hence you need a Developer ID and the SF will cost you $99...

P.S. Font Book is crap!  It will only defragment your drive and sometimes will not recognise your uploaded fonts (you'll have to manually copy them into your System Font Folder!) - Besides that, overtime you turn your Mac on, it will load those 1000's of fonts!

I downloaded and installed the fonts from Apple, but did not originally see them in my font list in Photoshop because they are labeled as "SF UI", not "San Francisco".

Experiencing the same issue in Photoshop (CC 2014), however, the San Francisco typeface is seen by Illustrator and other Apps such Sketch, Word, and Pages.

I finally found a version that worked for both. Apparently there is a Display version, and text version. Having both really helps!

Same issue here. I tried both on Mac and Windows and got the same result: the font is installed and I can't use it on CS, but I can see it on Word.

Hey Adam,

I'm having the same issue. None of those solutions worked. Did you end up resolving this?

Thanks!

No, unfortunately I have not. I've tried all of the above suggestions with no success.

Yeah - I wonder if there is a system block on it? I'm on a Macbook Pro too, with Yosemite. I'll let you know if I find anything!

close ps and then reopen.  any font properly installed on your system should be available in ps.

likewise, with your other programs.

I've tried that, even rebooted. It's not showing up.

is it showing up in any other (non-adobe) program?

if not, it's not properly installed.  do you have win or mac?
