I need my copy of Acrobat 11 re-activating

I just changed to a new laptop.

I had Acrobat 11 on the laptop so installed it on the new one and de-activated my copy on the new laptop so need it reactivating on the new laptop.

After a few days I got a pop-up that the serial number is already in use on the maximum allowed computers and I need to deactivate it.

I have tried deactivating but still get the message.

I tried contact Adobe but just got this

I can’t see anything apart from being told to deactivate the old copy, which I have done.

Thanks!

deactivation must be done using a computer that has a current activation AND that meets adobe’s security requirements so that local deactivation can be conveyed and stored on adobe’s servers.  ie, deactivation is no easy task to accomplish.  see https://community.adobe.com/t5/download-install-discussions/activation-limit-reached-for-non-subscription-adobe-desktop-applications/td-p/14804413?linkId=100000376554410

apparently, your previous attempt to deactivate was unsuccessfully converyed.  that means, if you did everything correctly, your local copy is deactivted, but your computer failed to register that deactivation with adobe’s servers.

unlike previous years, there’s no other option for deactivation, if you checked your deactivated computer and it shows (acrobat > help) deactivation is not selectable.

Acrobat XI has been End of Life since 2017.  For security reasons, nobody should be using it in 2026.

    Use a supported product instead:

    Hope that helps.

Thank you, Nancy. I fully understand and accept the security recommendation. Acrobat XI has been out of support since 2017 and no longer receives security updates.

However, I think it is important to distinguish three separate issues: end of support, security risk, and the validity of a perpetual licence.

Adobe may reasonably recommend that users replace unsupported software. Whether I choose to continue using that software, accepting the associated risks, is a separate matter from whether a valid perpetual licence that I purchased directly from Adobe can still be exercised.

Acrobat XI is currently installed and functional on my computer. Adobe recognises my licence, the original purchase remains recorded in my Adobe account, and the serial number is valid. What prevents continued licensed use is not functional failure of the software, but Adobe’s activation mechanism.

Therefore, End of Life or End of Support does not, by itself, explain why a perpetual licence should become technically unusable.

That distinction is precisely the issue I am trying to clarify in this discussion.

you can still install, activate and deactivate your acrobat xi (though deactivation is difficult).

I am sure that the previous laptop had a link to deactivate and thought it confirmed that it had been deactivated successfully.

‘Deactivate’ is now greyed out which seems to confirm this.

How do I activate it on the new computer?

again, you can’t side-step the “excess activation limit” problem without a computer that has a current activation etc.

It’s doubtful that XI will activate even under ideal conditions, due to its advanced age.

You should have posted in https://community.adobe.com/p/acrobat as per the suggestion by Adobe. Make a post there and change the title to avoid deletion due to being marked as duplicate
