Question

I only want to update one of the software from the Design Standard Suite

I have bought the Design Standard Suite CS 5.5 a few years ago (at student price via my university), and now I've purchased the update to CS6 but only for InDesign, because it's the only one I actually use. When I enter the InDesign Cs6 serial number in the installer, I get the following error message: "Serial Number you provided is valid, but qualifying product could not be found on this computer." I have a serial code for the Design Standard Suite CS 5.5, but not for the individual InDesign CS5.5.

How can I solve this problem? Is it only allowing me to upgrade if I buy the whole Design Standard Suite? I really only want InDesign.

First, you may not use an Education version serial number to receive an upgrade price on a newer product, since the Education version was heavily discounted in the first place

Second, upgrades are only for the same product, or a greater product (single program to suite) not from a suite to a single product

You are going to have to get a refund for your upgrade purchase, and then buy the full CS6 program if you really need the newer features

Student versions can definitely be upgraded to normal commercial CS6 at the upgrade price.

What’s the Difference Between Adobe Student Editions vs. Regular? | ProDesignTools

"The traditional student editions cannot be upgraded to other (future) education editions – but they are entitled to receive Adobe’s discounted upgrade pricing to all regular commercial versions, –or– you can purchase another student edition if you still qualify."

As you say: Suite to Standalone upgrade is not a valid upgrade path but Suite to Suite upgrade at the upgrade price definitely is.

OK and thanks, I was writing from memory of an old discussion, so mis-remembered the part about Education upgrades
