If I upgraded Lightroom where would I find the original license key?

I recently digitally upgraded from Lightroom 3 to Lightroom 5 via the Adobe online store, and the upgrade process simply queried my machine for the original license key to authorize the download/upgrade.  Later I purchased a more powerful laptop for editing, and am trying to migrate Lightroom - however, I'm being asked for BOTH license keys - and I no longer have record of the ORIGINAL one.  I'm very frustrated by this requirement from Adobe, and wonder if anyone could point me to a way to display the original license key (or find someone in Adobe who could send it to me)?

Thanks,

Patrick

Hi Pjcampbells,

Serial numbers are required for installation but not for download, so your Lightroom 3 number would not have been recorded when you downloaded the LR5 upgrade. Only if you registered the LR3 number will it be available in your account. I do suggest that you Contact Customer Care‌ via chat and request that they search for your LR3 serial number. Chat representatives are unable to help with technical troubleshooting for older software like LR3 and LR5, but they can assist with questions about licensing and activation.

As an aside, when you say you are trying to migrate Lightroom, do you mean you trying to transfer the program from a backup? If so, please be aware that Adobe software typically does not migrate correctly because of hidden registration files. It should always be installed either by disc or by downloading the appropriate installer. LR 5 is available here: Install Photoshop Lightroom.

Let us know how it goes with the serial number. If you continue to experience issues, don't hesitate to post a reply to this discussion.

Best,

Hi Patrick,

I have checked with your Adobe ID on forums and didn't find any Lightroom 3 registered there, you do have your Lightroom 5 serial number on this Adobe ID.

You may have registered you Serial number for Lightroom 3 on a different Adobe ID ( Email ID ) of yours also if you have never registered the Product please refer to , Find your Adobe product serial number quickly

Hi Bani, thanks for your note. Unfortunately I have only one Adobe account that I'm aware of, and as you point out my serial number isn't there. What is maddening is that when I look in the registration area of my new Lightroom it shows BOTH serial numbers with green check marks - only obfuscated. Since I upgraded online and then downloaded version 5, Adobe would have checked my version 3 license before allowing me to download - so they should have SOME record of the serial number somewhere, or be able to read the obfuscated version I have. Why won't they do that for me?

Thanks, Patrick
