Illustrator CS5 installation failure

I'm trying to download and install Adobe Illustrator CS5 (from Adobe) on my MacBook Air. When I try to run the installation software I get:

"Install can't be opened. You should eject the disk image"

When I click on the (?) I get:

"The app's authorisation has been revoked. There may be a problem with this app. Although the app was signed by an identified developer the certificate for the app has been revoked and it cannot be opened. Check with the Mac App Store or the software developer to see whether there is an updated version of this app"

I have tried several times with the same result. I have also disabled Gatekeeper but it makes no difference. It continues to refuse the installation software.

I don't understand why the MacBook should flag and refuse an up-to-date software download like this and both Adobe and Apple have been unhelpful so far in providing an explanation or solution as the online help available now seems to pertain only to Creative Cloud products. Any suggestions? I'm at my wits' end.

    >up-to-date software download

CS5 is about 6 years old and is really NOT compatible with your new Mac

For Mac El Capitan or the newer Sierra operating system read below

Owners of old programs simply have problems with Mac El Capitan/Sierra... none of which is Adobe's fault... Adobe did not change your old program to make it stop working... Apple changed their operating system and THAT is why your old programs won't work, not because of anything Adobe did... Also... every time Apple issues an update, there is the risk that an old program that HAS been working will STOP working... bottom line, old programs require a matching old operating system

Yep, Age-old problem: 'updated' OS versions that never take into account that the world doesn't just stop outside their development offices and products and that people can't afford to buy and upgrade new software every time the OS throws up so many bugs and glitches they need to release a new one.  Kglad's fix worked perfectly. Thanks for taking the time to look into the problem John.
