There is nothing obligatory about business subscriptions (or Creative Cloud for Teams). It’s more a matter of convenience. People often are hired or leave companies and keeping track of individual subscriptions can be a nightmare. When they leave, you need to know their Adobe ID and password in order to re-deploy the license to someone else. Or you must access their email account to reset their password.

Amongst other business-centric features, a Teams subscription gives you a central admin console to manage your licenses and software updates. Makes deploying and re-assigning licenses simple.

If none of the extra Teams features are required and you are happy keeping track of 5 separate Adobe IDs and passwords and updates then go for individual subscriptions.

Depending on your location, there might be other restrictions: f.ex. in Belgium if you want to pay by bank transfer, then you need a Team licence. You can only pay for an individual licence by credit card or Paypal, so it's not very convenient for a company.

I manage 6 teams licenses. Individual licenses would be a nightmare.

A teams license is more expensive but the advantages weight that out. 5 Licenses is a good number to think about teams licenses.

The key thing to remember is that retail licenses belong to the person using it. This is an individual, personal, Adobe ID. If you want someone else to use it you need to file a transfer form with Adobe. If they leave without giving in their Adobe password, Adobe won’t give it to you, or the company, it’s that person’s own license. Worst of all, you may be obliged to keep paying their subscription For the license term. This doesn’t suit most businesses.
