Installer was unable to access a critical file/directory

I've seen this question in the forums already: I'm receiving the "Installer was unable to access a critical file/directory. Please try installing again (Error Code: 48)".  I've already tried running it as an administrator but still nothing. Is there anything else I can try to resolve this? I see people suggesting to check the error logs however i'm not sure how to find the error in event viewer...any suggestions?
