I have an old student key of CS5.5 design premium but can no longer retrieve the serial number. Any help would be appreciated.

I doubt that without the serial number you will have a chance to activate the software. If you had a redemption code for the student version of CS5.5 I doubt that you will be able to use that for getting a working serial number.

What do you mean by "student key" ?

Did you ever register your serial number with Adobe?
