Installing CS5 applications on Mac OS Sierra

NOTE: I was told to start this thread by an Adobe Support Staff Member who claimed this was the next step in resolving my problem. Apparently Adobe would like to resolve the issue in this forum rather than directly with me.

ISSUE:

When trying to install my CS5 apps onto a machine running Mac OS Sierra I get the following error message:

The app’s authorization has been revoked There may be a problem with this app. Although the app was signed by an identified developer, the certificate for the app has been revoked, and it cannot be opened. Check with the Mac App Store or the software developer to see whether there is an updated version of this app. Was this help page useful? Send feedback.

I have tried following the steps at https://helpx.adobe.com/creative-cloud/kb/install-creative-suite-mac-os-sierra.html but still received the same error.

I believe I've found the mistake. The instructions say to open the installer with Terminal. Generally I interpret that to mean drag the item to the Terminal icon in the launch bar (Like when I want to open a file with Illustrator, I drag it to the illustrator icon). In fact, I needed to drag the item to the open terminal window. Doing that does seem to have resolved the issue. Clarifying that detail would help others follow these instructions.

Thank you for your help.

Update for OSX 10.14 Mojave

I was unable to right click and see package contents, and using pkgutil caused the following error:

Could not open package for expansion: /Volumes/Adobe CS5 Design Premium/Adobe CS5 Design Premium

Solution:

From the terminal, type: /Volumes/Adobe CS5 Design Premium/Adobe CS5 Design Premium/Install.app/Contents/MacOS/Install

This will launch the Installer and you're good to go!

As I mentioned above, that is the procedure I followed. And the result is the error message in the screen capture above. Please stop telling to complete the steps on the link, as I've done it three times now for you, and all with identical results. It's time for next steps.

Michelt80602532 the workaround is to begin the installation using the Terminal.  The instructions in Installing Creative Suite on macOS 10.12 (Sierra) provide details on how you can implement that workaround.  The error message you posted only occur when don't drag the Install Unix Executable to the Terminal window.  You can see additional examples at Installing Creative Suite on a new Mac or macOS 10.12 (Sierra) or later.

I am sorry that you are facing difficulties implementing the workaround to install Creative Suite 5 on macOS 10.12.  If the install is continuing to fail after beginning in the terminal then there may be an additional errors preventing the installation.  You can find details on how to locate the installation errors at Troubleshoot install issues with log files in Adobe Creative Suite (CS6, CS5.5, CS5), PS Elements, and Premiere Elements.

Here's a screen capture of the error message. On the left is the finder window showing the package contents from the install download. The "Install" file is the file I believe the instructions refer to. When I attempt to open the "install" file with Terminal, the error message in the upper right appears. Clicking on the question mark on that message brings up the help window describing the authorization issue.

Thanks for the update Michelt80602532.  Good job locating the Install Unix Executable.

As discussed in Installing Creative Suite on macOS 10.12 (Sierra) you will now want to drag the Install Unix Executable to an open Terminal window.

The Terminal can be found in the Utilities folder.  Once open drag the icon to the open window.  You will then want to follow the instructions in the terminal window to begin the installation process.

Michelt80602532 if you are still receiving error messages about the application's authorization being revoked then please make sure you are following the steps listed at Installing Creative Suite on macOS 10.12 (Sierra) .  You would receive the message only if attempting to double click or open the installer.

You need to make sure to open the application package and locate the Install Unix Executable.  Once located you have to drag it to the open Terminal window.

If you continue to face difficulties then please post a screen shot of the error you are receiving.   You can find details on how to post a screen shot at FAQ: How do I capture and post a screen shot or video?.

Adobe no longer supports CS5 (or CS6)

Owners of old programs simply have problems with Mac El Capitan/Sierra... none of which is Adobe's fault... Adobe did not change your old program to make it stop working... Apple changed their operating system and THAT is why your old programs won't work, not because of anything Adobe did... Also... every time Apple issues an update, there is the risk that an old program that HAS been working will STOP working... bottom line, old programs require a matching old operating system
