Installing new version of Lighroom

Creative Cloud indicates there is a new version of Lightroom, but every time I try to install it, I get the message, Please save your work and close the following programs, then click Continue: Adobe Lightroom".  The problem is, Lightroom is not running in the background.  I have reinstalled Creative Cloud and that didn't help.  Any suggestions?

Which operating system? There is probably a background task running somewhere.

 

If all else fails, try rebooting then upgrading. See if that clears it.
