insufficient permission

i have just purchased lightroom 4 and cannot upgrde to 4.1 due to insufficient permission.i went on to google and it is aproblem with a lot of people.advice is do this and do that.but i am a pensioner so it means more expense. i have a vista computer.is there a soulution that does not involve  putting codes and lines of text.
