Is there ANY way to install Adobe Cloud CC (Launcher) to another drive?

TLDR; Why does Adobe FORCE Adobe CC to install on C, they have NO reason to.
But if you are from Adobe, it's a insult to not look though this and hear me out.


To Adobe,
I did a bit of a read (most all pointed to this forum) if there was a way to install the Adobe CC Launcher on another drive, but I think (at least in my case) most of your staff were being confused and though they meant apps, This post is NOT that. This is about the CC launcher itself, nothing to do with the apps/software.


Simply put, the launcher doesn’t need to be on that drive. It's only there to download the actual software and if anything, is more of a hindrance.


Not only would all this + about 8 sister programs be constantly chipping away at my RAM and CPU but my SSD which I can agree with some people to install actual software (i.e. Photoshop, Illustrator etc.) on the C drive but it's even IRONIC when in the laucher, adobe actually give you a choice where to install the products (but NOT the launcher itself?!) Why are you forcing it on C? You've got no reason to.
People should be able to install the launcher wherever they choose and only on C as an editable default

 

I would put all this behind me if I could just change the install location for CC.

Callumh38162047, thank you for the feedback.  Please follow the link offered by John so that you can provide your request directly to our Engineering team.

 

As Linsim mentioned the current reason the Creative Cloud desktop app, and it's shared components, are installed on the partition that contains the operating system is because they are shared between applications.  Since this location does not change, so it allows Adobe applications to utilize those shared resources and components.

 

Many of the applications that are included with a Creative Cloud membership do support custom install locations. So if you wish to have a separate partition for the installed applications, you can do so.

 

In addition to the shared resources and components, the download and install process will also occur on the partition that contains the operating system.  You can use the system requirements for the application as a guide to the amount of free space that may be needed.  The system requirements for each app can be found at https://helpx.adobe.com/creative-cloud/system-requirements.html.

Caveats: I don't speak for Adobe and I am also not a programmer.

 

That being said, I suspect the reason Adobe wants its programs on the C drive is because that's where the OS and a whole lot of OS libraries are stored, and it's far easier to access those using relative drive locations than it is to hard code the locations into their own programs, especially if, for some reason, those locations change. Customized installation locations can introduce all sorts of monkey wrenches into the toolbox; it's far safer and more reliable to use standardized locations and the C:\ drive has been the standard for Windows for a long, long, long time. (It's also possible that the application launcher is coded to use relative locations for Adobe programs, too, so putting it on a different drive could cause all of the programs to fail.)

 

You also cut down on drive seeks and program execution if everything is on the same drive. 

 

I could be oh, so very wrong. This opinion is worth what you paid for it. 😉
