Error at 40% ?? Guess you are installing from Adobe Creative Cloud rite ?

Have you purchased Subscription or Serial number ?

If its serial number , try to download from below link :

https://helpx.adobe.com/lightroom/kb/lightroom-downloads.html

Let us know if you had purchased subscription , also it will be helpful if you can post screenshot of the installation window.

empty your tmp folder and retry.

if that fails, download using the appropriate link below for your installation file(s): Lightroom:  6.5 | 6| 5.7.1| 5 | 4 | 3

if you aren't comfortable deleting files, don't do it.

try the direct install link.
