It's Been A While...

Any and All,

Back in 2006 or so, I ordered Photoshop CS2...got it in the mail...installed it...and have been happy ever since ...

...Until one day I got the great idea to install Lion and that pretty much killed my product .  I thought I was pretty much sunk, but I saw that I can order upgrade downloads that can get me from CS2 to CS5 at a reasonable cost .

So my question:  Would I be able to install the upgrade over my dead in the water product on a machine running Lion...and it work?  OR, would I have to go back to Snow Leopard...reload CS2...download and install CS5 upgrade...THEN install Lion?  OR, If I have one machine on Snow Leopard and had the CS5 upgrade running...could I just drag the application over to a machine running Lion afterwards...or does it have to be a normal install on the end use machine?

Bunches of questions with a bunch of options...if you've got the time...I'm all ears.

Thanks.

    Hi,

It's understandable. I've actually done this for quite sometime now.

For upgrade version like (mac to mac)(win to win) normally the upgrade version once you install it would search the system for a previous version license, it it can find the license then it will just continue with the installation. Once you launch the product it will just ask you to activate it.

If it can't find any depending on the software, usually it would just continue with the installation or it will give you a window asking the name of the product you upgraded from and asking you to enter the serial number. Once you complete the information the next botton will be highlighted to continue with the installation.

On other cases you may continue with the installation without providing the previous version serial number however at the time you launch the software it will give you a message to activate. After you enter the serial number of the upgrade version the next box will ask you for the name of the software you upgraded from including the information of the serial number. Once done it will activate.

    Hi,

Actually you don't need to install your CS2 on your new operating system (anyways it won't work). If you purchase the upgrade of CS5 you can install the upgrade and you would only need the serial number of CS2 on the activation.

    Hello to you too,

Thanks for the quick reply.  Please don't be offended if I ask you a few more questions...I just want to make sure I understand before I blow 200 bucks.

You've done this upgrade method before or did you read about it somewhere?  Reason I'm asking is that I thought I had read that once you downloaded the upgrade and began installing it...that it would search your system for older versions of Photoshop (my dead CS2).  I still have my jewel case for the CS2 with the serial number on it...so that's not a problem.

What might be a problem is that the machines that I originally installed the CS2 on is kaput...would I still be able to use that serial number if I've already installed it somewhere, I would I have to contact Adobe and have them restart me?

    Thanks again for the assist,
