Lagging/Freezing

I have major issues with lagging and freezing when using PS and LR to the point i am unable to edit anything, is this a common issue, how can i resolve this. 

It's a 2017 mac however due to this issue i use my macbook pro so there is very little stored on my iMac

 

I'm using MacOS Catalina version 10.15.5

iMac (Retina 4K, 21.5-inch, 2017), 

Processor 3 GHz Quad-Core Intel Core i5 

Memory 8 GB 2400 MHz DDR4

Graphics Radeon Pro 555 2 GB

I am not familiar with Macs, so I don't know if what you have is sufficient (other than the RAM, which is OK).
