Laptop with previouly installed CS6 Master Collection needs a new motherboard replacement. To keep access and use to software, would it be best to go ahead and replace the motherboard? Or, remove the hard drive and re-install it into another laptop? I originally purchased the laptop with all software pre-loaded.

You will have the option of reinstalling the software as long as you have the serial number(s) needed to activate.  You should check with the company that sold the machine if they did not provide installation media with it.  Downloads are available thru https://helpx.adobe.com/download-install.html

It is really sick for someone to have marked this thread as Helpfull, when no one in forums or live chat answered my concerns. I am attaching a transcript of this thread and my session on live chat to the letter to Adobe I am drafting.

Thank you for your quick reply.

Unfortunately, I purchased the laptop on Ebay and the seller is no longer around. The laptop and all software worked perfectly for half a year. Two months ago I put the laptop away and didn't use it for that time. When I went to re-use it, the laptop waw totally dead. It is not the battery, nor the power adapter, not the power cord leaving only with a motherboard problem.

If I interpret your response correctly, if I change the motherboard, or remove the hard drive and re-install it in another same type laptop, I will loose access to all the previously installed Adobe Master Collection since I don't have access to the serial numbers. Is this correct?

I don't know much about how the hardware side of things works out, but at the stage knowing what you have divulged, I can't really offer much to help you along, in a legal sense.   One thing about your situation is that if you bought this machine secondhand with the software already installed, and nothing was done to transfer ownership of that software to you, then you really should not have had the use of it at all.  There is a formal process that has to be followed when reselling/transferring ownership of Adobe software.  Part of that process would have been providing you with serial numbers to use with the software.
