License Transfer: CS6 Production Premium Commercial Upgrade from CS5 Master Collection Student Version

I would like to sell and legally transfer ownership of my CS6 Production Premium suite. It is a commercial upgrade from my student version of CS5 Master Collection.

At the time I purchased the upgrade from Adobe, my understanding was that the two licenses I own essentially became one at upgrade and that the CS6 Production Premium commercial license should be transferable as a full commercial product without the need for the transferee to own a previous CS5/CS5.5 Creative Suite.

To be clear, I want to transfer the full, commercial version of CS6 and relinquish both my CS5 and CS6 licenses.

I am getting conflicting answers from Adobe chat. I have a chat transcript of a manager that confirmed I could transfer the full commercial CS6.

Me: “To be clear, if I transfer cs6. The buyer won't need cs5?”

Manager: “Yes [], we are same page. You can transfer the CS6 only.”

Me: “Right. But will it be an upgrade or full version. Will the buyer need cs5?”

Manager: “They no need CS5. They can install the activate the software.”

Then, a different rep insisted I could not, I could only transfer CS6 as an upgrade. I escalated the issue and the response was that the manager who told me I could transfer the full version was wrong and Adobe would not stand by what he told me.

Any ideas on why I’m getting such conflicting answers from Adobe reps. Is there anywhere else other that chat support I can appeal to?

Much appreciated

Well, the serial number in my account for CS6 is the upgraded version as I stated, so it does require a CS5 serial number.

My question is can someone from Adobe combine them for transfer?

Mmokada, I am sorry but it is not possible to transfer education licenses. Education licenses were offered at a deep discount but also included additional restrictions.  This includes the inability to transfer the software to another individual or party.

If you have another applicable software title registered under your account then please use the details provided by Kglad, post #1,  to transfer both licenses to the new party.  You can find information on how to locate your registered software titles at Find your serial number .

I can confirm that the license for Master Collection CS5, registered under your account, is an Educational version.  You also have an upgrade copy of Production Premium CS6 registered.  You would want to include any previous full versions Creative Suite software titles that you purchased to be able to install Production Premium CS6.

Transfer an Adobe product license

you'll probably need to transfer both licenses (ie, serial numbers) because the user of cs6 will need both cs5 and cs6 serial numbers to install cs6.

you can test by starting to install cs6 on a computer that has neither cs6 nor a previous version.  after entering the cs6 serial number, you'll either be prompted to select a qualifying product (ie, previous version) or you'll be presented with the options to install the various programs of the suite.  if you're prompted for a previous version, they'll need both licenses (serial numbers).  otherwise, they won't.

Thanks for your response. Unfortunately, the CS5 student version is not transferable.

Again, my understanding when I upgraded to the commercial CS6 was that the two products (student CS5 upgraded to commercial CS6) effectively qualified as a full, transferable version of CS6.

In other words, 2 licenses become 1 license:

CS5 student + CS6 commercial upgrade = CS6 full, commercial and transferable version.

If anyone has any insight, it would be welcomed.
