Lightroom 4 purchased through Apple App store does NOT have a serial number - cannot upgrade to lightroom 6

I am trying to upgrade from Lightroom 4.4 to Lightroom 6 on a Mac running OS X (Lion).  I have purchased Lightroom 6 as an upgrade (as I am running Lightroom 4).  The Lightroom 6 installer continues to indicate that it cannot find a "qualifying product" and asks for a declaration of the Lightroom product installed and its serial number.  I am currently running Lightroom 4 purchased through the Apple App Store in 2013; according to all the information I can glean regarding this product... it does not have a serial number (if it was purchased through the Apple App Store).  Does anyone have an idea on how to supply a valid serial number for the Lightroom 6 installer?

iMac running OS X 10.9.5

Adobe Lightroom 4.4 (purchased in 2013 through Apple App Store)

Adobe Lightroom 6 (purchased online as an upgrade from Adobe Lightroom 4.X)

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Bruce

THIS IS HOW TO UPGRADE From LR4 to LR6 if purchased through the App Store like us!

this was such a silly run around situation for me and really left a bitter taste as to the poor quality of resolution but finally I made it through and I would like to help anyone else with this problem..

    First Click this link:

Upgrade Mac App Store Lightroom 4 to version 5

Click the bottom for customer support... Chat

Tell them your situation... That you are trying to upgrade from LR4 to LR6 and you don't have a serial number for LR4 because it was paid through the App Store...

(If you can't find your receipt for LR4 you can contact apple and they will email it to you)

The adobe customer care rep asked me to start the installation and when it comes to the page where it says it can't find the previous version and please enter the serial number etc you hold Command + Shift and double click on the installation window. LR installer will Generate a "Challenge Code" which you have to give to the Adobe Chat Rep and they will give you a response code, THAT"S IT!

once the response code is accepted the LR installer will finish the installation process and your good to go!!!

if there's no serial number for your lr 4, how'd you install it in the first place?

and if you can install it, do so.  then the lr 6 installer will detect the lr 4.4 install and not prompt your for its serial number.

As I said in the post, a serial number was not necessary to install it; the Apple downloadable version doesn't seem to be serialized.  I have not uninstalled Lightroom 4; it is still running, but apparently in its present form it doesn't provide a serial number for the Lightroom 6 upgrade to use.
