I haven't been able to buy a new computer yet to support Windows 7 (or 8), therefore I don.t have LR 4.  Can I upgrade directly to LR 5 from LR 3.6 when I get my new computer with the appropriate OS?

Currently the answer would seem to be yes based on being able to upgrade from as early as LR1 to get LR4.  You can see this for yourself if you go tothe product page and look thru the upgrade options under the Buy offering.

Adobe has been tightening up their upgrade allowances, but Lightroom does not yet appear to be impacted in the same way as other applications.  There is no one here that can say what the case will actually be when LR5 is released.

LR4 is also supported on VISTA if that happens to be your OS.
