macOS Monterey 12.6 - Unable to save documents from any adobe program to external HD

I just upgrading from previous MacOS to OS Monterey (12.6). Since doing this I am unable to to save any document created in InDesign, Illustrator, or Photoshop to my external HD. I am also having an issue with linked images not being recognized when they reside on the same external HD.

If I copy the files to my main HD, everything works as it should.

External drive is working properly.

Latest version of all Adobe programs (2022)

Anyone else have this issue? I spent all day on phone with Apple, no solution other than contact Adobe.

Thanks for your help.

Based on the error messages I was receiving, I thought so too. But I have gone and made all folders Read & Write for all users. No change. I receive different error messages depending on the program. Illustrator = not enough acces privilege to access drive; InDesign = File may be damaged and cant be saved. Neither of which is true. All files will save to my main HD without any issue. Also, If I copy an old job folder to my main drive, I am able to save, all paths for links are honored. Everything works as it should.

What file system format does your external HD use?

    • Apple File System (APFS)

    • Mac OS Extended

    • MS-DOS (FAT) and ExFAT compatible with Windows.

The HD is formatted in MacOS Extended (journaled). I have looked into that a bit. Wondering if I will need to add another drive with APFS formatting. My current external drive has many years of work stored on it as well as Time Machine backups.

What kind of external drive? Network? USB? Did anything change in your migration? Have you checked for the latest firmware of your device?

The external drive is a WD My Book (4TB), connected via USB. I did not migrate to a new machine, only did an update to move up to OS Monterey. This issue does not occur when using other programs such as Word or Excel.

Ran tests on HD, no errors found, tried re-installing OS, no difference.

This was just an update to the OS, not a migration to a new computer.
