Missing cataloges and files after update

I'm writing this for a friend who is less than proficient in writing english: During upgrade to PS CC 2020 and Bridge 2020 he encountered a problem. His recent catalogue Nature 2019 containing more than one thousand processed photos of birds just disappeared. Prior to this update he updated his iMac to Catalina OS. Now he wonders if it's a connection between the programs resulting in a major error which makes recent catalogues disappear. I had a look into the problem and created a new catalogue namend Nature 2019 just to see what happened. When he now tries to save processed photos in this catalogue, the photos automatically ends up in the trash bin. Anyone, any explanation for this?

Kind regards Per Flåthe.

Photoshop does not entertain a catalogue structure. It uses whatever the OS offers.

Bridge also does not entertain a catalogue structure, but may offer more complex data treatement as it may create side car files an may cache previews etc. But also here, there is no catalogue handling on its own. Bridge also uses the directory structure as offered by the OS. But bridge allows for renames and deletations, so you may do more file handling tasks without invoking finder.

The conclusion of this is that when files "disapear" they need to be searched back using OS tools.
