Missing common.msi file during Premiere Elements 10 install

We are having trouble installing Adobe Premiere Elements 10 software from a DVD.  We are using Windows 7 Ultimate 32 bit SP1.

It says that the Windows Installer program has stopped working then we have to stop the install.

We suspect that my son deleted a "common" file in a previous uninstall that he should not have.  And we keep getting a random message from Windows saying it is searching for "common.msi" in his temp folder.

So we suspect that when we try to install Adobe Premiere Elements 10 the installation problem is somehow related to the common.msi file.

Where can we obtain that file, and once we get it, where does it typically reside so we can replace it?

Thanks.

    Hi,

I would recommend running a Windows update first so that the operating system can download and install any missing Microsoft Installer components.

Then copy the contents of the DVD to your desktop and try initiating the installation from there.

Do reply to this post with the results.

It did not work.  Now it gave us an error saying there was a missing DLL file to activate the serial number.

Is there any way other than Windows Update to obtain a missing common.msi file?  We are still getting that error messge where it is looking for that file in an old uninstall directory.
