Must older apps versions be deleted before adding latest ones?

I have the 2017 version of Adobe Audition on an iMac. I am wanting to put the 2019 version on my computer. Do I first need to delete the 2017 version before installing the 2019 one. If I install 2019 will it automatically replace the 2017 version, or will it install so I would have both 2017 and 2019 on my computer?

It isn't necessary to uninstall the old version when you install an update to the new version. Sometimes it is an advantage to keep the old version until you are sure that everything works with the new version. Or you have to finished a existing project with the old version and use the new version to create new projects.

You can keep all versions for as long as they work on your computer. From time to time, however, older versions conflict with newer versions. And to be honest, as soon as the newer version works fine, you don't go back to older versions except if you have plug-ins or other software not working with your current software.

One reason for me to keep older versions is to finish a work in progress, because I have learned that you never change when a job needs to be finished. Sometimes it's also good to go back to see if this or that behaviour was the same in prior versions.

At some point it does no more make sense to keep older software on your computer as the file formats and capabilities evolve and are normally not backwards compatible.
