Need help installing Acrobat X, Standard on my Vista OS laptop

Vista?!  Yeah I know, but that's what I have on both my (nearly dead) HP desktop and my HP laptop. It was previously installed on the desktop without any difficulty.  Now I'm trying to install Acrobat X on the laptop and am getting the message that it cannot be installed on this operating system (both are Vista-64). Any ideas?

your os is ok is your have sp2 and if you meet the other specs:

  • 1.3GHz or faster processor
  • Microsoft Windows XP Home, Professional, or Tablet PC Edition with Service Pack 3 (32 bit) or Service Pack 2 (64 bit); Windows Server 2003 (32 bit and 64 bit; Service Pack 2 required for 64 bit); Windows Server 2008 or 2008 R2 (32 bit and 64 bit); Windows Vista® Home Basic, Home Premium, Business, Ultimate, or Enterprise with Service Pack 2 (32 bit and 64 bit); Windows 7 Starter, Home Premium, Professional, Ultimate, or Enterprise (32 bit and 64 bit)
  • 512MB of RAM (1GB recommended)
  • 1.9GB of available hard-disk space
  • 1024x576 screen resolution
  • DVD-ROM drive
  • Microsoft Internet Explorer 7 or 8; Firefox 3.5 or 3.6
  • Video hardware acceleration (optional)

if you meet the specs, run the cleaner:  http://labs.adobe.com/downloads/acrobatcleaner.html

then try and install.
