Need help with old-school install of CS4! CS2 Serial Code not being recognized

Hi!

I bought a used copy of CS4 on eBay (dangerous I know!) -- I thought it was a proper program, but turns out its just an upgrade. BUT -- I have CS2 on my system already, and so, when I try and install, and I enter my PS CS2 serial code as proof it says "serial number not valid"

I know Adobe stopped supporting this a LONG time ago -- but is there any help/work-around so I can make this work?

Thanks!

I don't understand -- how is it possible that I might be doing something illegal? The box and packaging and DVD all look legit. The Serial code worked. I just registered the serial number with Adobe. I am very happy to have found an eBay deal, but obviously don't want to be doing something illegal!

you are the unwitting recipient of illegal software. it's not your fault, but you'll be on the losing end of your purchase.

if you registered with adobe, i would expect you to hear from adobe. unfortunately, for you that may be after the return window.

if you want to get a jump. on that, contact adobe support and ask them to validate your serial number.  (unfortunately, if they do validate, that won't protect you)

there are 2 ways to contact adobe; chat and twitter:

chat:
use a browser that allows popups and cookies
and click here, https://helpx.adobe.com/contact.html?rghtup=autoOpen
in the chat field (lower right), type AGENT
be patient, it can take quite a while to reach a human.

twitter:
tweet @AdobeCare

p.s. if you're contacted by anyone (via email or private message), it's much more likely to be a scammer than an adobe representative. ie, double check for an employee badge if contacted in the forums and look for an adobe.com domain in the email address if you click reply to an email. then check again and be very suspicious. any other method of contacting (or offering to contact you) is almost certainly a scam, https://community.adobe.com/t5/using-the-community-discussions/staying-safe-in-the-adobe-support-community/td-p/12919684/redirect_from_archived_page/true

Get a refund.

As kglad said, if you manage to install it, it will only work for the trial period.

So, it looks like it has installed the full version (E.g. Under "help" inside PS it has the menu option "deactivate" which I assume means its fully activated). But are you saying, it will actually conk out in 30 days, nevertheless, because of how Adobe does(n't) handle old CS2 serial registrations etc?

if it's an illegal version it will continue to work beyond the 30 day trial unless you're caught.  (eg, the vendor turns you in.)

cs2, cs3 and cs4 can no longer be activated, and it's been that way for years.

ie, if you have a compatible os, you can install and use it for 30 days. nothing else can be easily done to extend that 30 day period.

and if you have a serial number that doesn't need activation, it's illegal.
