Having purchased a new iMac I tried to activate my CS5 Extended but can't because CS4 isn't on the new computer. How can I get an activation code?

ZepPilot I believe you are referring to the serial number for your previous qualifying software title.  You can find the registered serial numbers under your account at http://www.adobe.com/.  You can find additional information at Find your serial number quickly - http://helpx.adobe.com/x-productkb/global/find-serial-number.html.

This isn't going to do it. I have my CS5 serial number but it goes back to validate it with PS4. When I load PS4 onto the new computer, it looks for PS3 and the cycle continues. I have the SNs for CS5 and PS4 but not the earlier versions.

How do I escape this cycle and activate CS5?

There should not be a cycle.

Install Photoshop CS5, enter your CS5 upgrade serial number then enter your CS4 serial number when prompted for an earlier qualifying version (even if that is also an upgrade) and that's it. No need to install anything else.

    CS5 will then activate successfully.
