Question

Need to reinstall CS6 after laptop crashed but it says activated on 2 computers (it's not)

Hi, I have CS6, and it was installed on my two laptops. A few days ago, one of my laptops crashed and I had to reinstall Windows, which wiped my apps. I downloaded CS6 and reinstalled it on the computer it had just been wiped from (using my serial number to activate) but now when I open the programs I get the following message: "The serial number (my serial number) is already in use by the maximum of 2 computers. You need to deactivate another computer within 29 days to use this product."

But it is *not* on 2 other computers - just my second computer, and the one I'm trying to reinstall it on - so I have nothing to deactivate. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling it on my recently-crashed laptop to see if that changed anything. It did not. I'd like to get my software working again please. Thank you.

@hashboy10

you must use a computer with an activated version.  open that version > click help > deactivate or sign out.

there's no other option.

Hi @Lara377092530tk6  - Thank you for submitting your query.

I would like to inform you that Serial key based software has a limited number of possible activations.  If you exceeded the activation count by leaving old devices activated, apparantly it is going to get the activation count reset as because CS6 is discontinued & unsupported.

If you go to your account.adobe.com, under Plans and Payment > Activated Devices, it should show your installs if the CS6 license was registered to your account.

Since these are peer to peer forums and no one here has access to your account information. Click on the following link : https://helpx.adobe.com/contact.html

 Thanks,

DJ.

that is incorrect outdated information.  consider correcting your post by removing the part about adobe support being able to reset the activation count..

regarding the laptop that crashed:

if cs6 was activated and then hardware was changed, then after the crash you tried to install and activate on what appears to you to be the same laptop, adobe would recognize it as a different computer.

if that did not happen, it's not clear why the crashed laptop is being recognized as a different computer before and after the crash.  but there's not way to remedy the problem unless it's the hardware change i mentioned.
