newly installed photoshop 6 not recognizing my scanner, not allowing me to import scans

I switcjed from cs 2 to cs6 when i got a new imac and for some reason even though it seems like I've installed the scanner driver successfully, and the computer recognizes the scanner, it does not show up as import option in photoshop. is scanning into photoshop cs6 different from cs2? do i scan in some way that does not use the import button?
