Old Adobe product - serial number issues

Hi,

We have Adobe Acrobat 7.0 Professional installed on 3 old XP Pro based PCs. The software on these aging PCs needs to me migrated to new hardware. Unfortunately, due to the age of the software on the PC, a particular 3rd party product _only_ supports version 7, so we can't upgrade to a newer version of Adobe software.

I've tried to re-activate the software via the automated telephone system, but it rejectes the activation saying that the Serial Number is invalid. I've also discussed this via chat with a support agent - they too say the Serial Numbers are invalid.

Due to staff leaving and builidng moves, the original paperwork and CDROMs cannot be found. So I have no idea if the Serial Numbers reported by the applications match those on the CDs, and I cannot provide proof of purchase - I don't know where the software was purchased from as I can't find the purchase order.

So, I'm stuck. Adobe say that there is nothing they can do and I can't progress the migration due to the software licensing issue. I've asked Adobe if it is possible to buy licenses for old versions of software - they say no.

Any ideas?

Regards,

Ian

Thanks for the answers so far.

The situation has changed slightly, and in fact I now need to build 3 complete new systems (rather than migrating and re-installing the existing systems). Therefore I will require 3 new copies of this software. However, I can't buy it. So, is it possible to buy a currently supported Adobe product (CS6 ?) and "downgrade" the license and obtain new serial numbers for the old product from Adobe? I now have a copy of the installation media, so all I need is 3 new Serial Numbers and be able to activate them.

    Cheers,

    Ian

You can purchase a volume license and then attempt to request a backwards license to CS3.  It is an involved process though and will require you to work with our support team.  You may also want to consider upgrading especially if you are making purchases and planning on installing Windows 7 on these newly built systems.

Acro 7 won't work properly on Win 7, anyway, so you are running in circles no matter what. I'm afraid there's no way out of this other going to some very dark place...

The OS hasn't changed - still XP Pro.

You can try registering the serial numbers yourself on Adobe.com.  If you can register them then the serial number is valid.  If you are unable to register it then it is possible they are registered to another account.  A member of our support team can do a search on the serial numbers to see if they are registered to a particular account.
