If you really do mean the original Photoshop CS then you'll need to download a fresh version from Adobe which does not require activation.

You'll also need to use the new serial number provided at that link.

    That's for Windows.

If you're on a Mac, I do not believe that those old PPC versions will work on new Intel-based Macs.

I'm having a similar problem. I have (original) Creative Suite but my new computer doesn't have a disc drive. I have the serial number and desperately need to put Photoshop and Illustrator on my new machine (before my wife tries to install the new machine in me!) Yes, upgrading is great, but I just shelled out $1400 for the new Mac.

(Old computer, eMac, monitor died, so "migrating" is just about impossible)

CS won't work on your new Mac.

The CS apps for Mac were written for the old PPC-based Macs.

Your new Mac is Intel-based and won't run anything written for old Macs.

    Your choices:

    1. Since CS is too old to qualify for discounted pricing, buy a full, new copy of CS6
    2. Join the Adobe Cloud and pay a monthly fee.
