Photoshop CS3 Extended registration fails

I originally installed this about 7 years ago. It installed and activated and was working fine up until the computer failed. I bought a new computer, dug out my Photoshop CDs, installed it, it accepted the key printed on the box cover, but upon registration it says it can't connect. It seems to be working OK, but do I need to register it again? It was registered to my Adobe account the first time I installed it 7 years ago, but it's not showing up in my online account, and when trying to enter the serial number it says to enter a valid number. This was a legitimate original Photoshop CS3 Extended suite in a sealed box when I bought it.

    >key printed on the box cover

CS3 is old, but I don't think Adobe ever printed a serial number ON the box, only on something inside the box

I meant to say the key is on a label attached to the CD case, it's not on the box itself. I read a few other posts about this and one said the activation servers were taken offline long ago for this version. I just want to make sure this isn't going to deactivate sometime in the future when I need it. It cost quite a bit back then.
