photoshop doesn't prompt for a password.

adobe will prompt you for your id and password to log in and download apps.

and your os, if a mac, will prompt you for a password if you try to make changes (like install a program) to the system.

so, what is it that you're having trouble doing?  or, even better, attach a screenshot of the password prompt, http://forums.adobe.com/message/4209263#4209263

In 2009 I bought Photoshop Elements and downloaded the program.  I got a new computer and uninstalled the program from the old computer.  I got the registration no. from Adobe but when I run the installation program, the registration number is invalid.

SherryJeffery have you verified the serial number you are entering is the same one registered with Adobe?  You can find information on how to locate your registered serial number at Find your serial number quickly - http://helpx.adobe.com/x-productkb/global/find-serial-number.html.
