Try resettin preferences : 

https://helpx.adobe.com/in/after-effects/using/preferences.html

 

Also make sure Adobe fodler inside Preference folder has read and write permissions to currently logged in User account.

If not , provide the same. 

~/Library/Preferences/Adobe.

Thank you very much for replying so quickly!

I did try that and it worked! I tried that before but I wasn't changing the preferences of all the files within the folders.

 

I run some tests and everything seems to work smoothly now.

For anyone else having this issue more recently, the 462.31 update for NVIDIA caused it for us! Roll back to this version of  NVIDIA Quadro desktop graphics driver 431.40 and everything works fine!
