Problem installing CS6 Extended on new laptop

Good morning.

I'm hoping someone can help me figure out how to install CS6 on a new computer. I recall that I first purchased CS5 (with a CD), then upgraded to CS6 in July, 2014, from a download, then downloaded and installed CS6 Extended in February, 2015. I don't recall whether CS6 Extended was an upgrade ($399 ???).

I deactivated both CS5 and CS6 on the older laptop, went to my Adobe account>Orders, downloaded and installed CS6 Extended, and pasted in the serial number. I got a message to the effect: “This is a valid serial number, but it doesn't reference a qualified product. Please select a product.” From the drop-down menu, CS6 Extended was not an option.

I'm thinking I might need to first install CS5 from the CD, then upgrade to CS6 Extended. However, when I try to run the CD on the new laptop (a Dell 7710, running Windows 7 Pro) I get a message that the installer failed to initialize. If I attempt to run the CD on the older laptop (a Dell XPS 16, also running Windows 7 Pro), the installer does initialize. So, apparently, the problem is machine-specific. Does anyone have any idea as to how I might get the CD to run on the new machine?

You don't need to install CS5. Just enter the serial number when the CS6 installer asks for it.

What it asks for is not a "qualified" product, but a qualifying product. That's the one you upgraded from.
