Problem with transfer of Adobe Standard XI from windows 8 laptop to my new windows 7 desktop

I'm frustrated. I had Adobe Standard XI on my windows 8 laptop, so I de-activated it. Then I installed from the Adobe website Adobe Standard XI on my new windows 7 desktop. When I was finished, it said my serial number was inconsistent for my version and it would not give me the option to opt for Adobe Standard XI (only version X or older). I tried the serial number on most of the options available but none worked. What do I do now?

    Is it possible you are installing an upgrade version and it is asking you to select a qualifying version? - the qualifying version will be the older version that you upgraded from.

    Thank you! I found an old serial number and tried each older version until it accepted it. Thanks again!
