PS CC 2018 on older iMac, very slow. [Edited for clarity]

OK, hope I am in the right place. I subscribe to the Adobe Photography package. I have just updated to the latest: Adobe Photoshop CC 2018.app, version 19. Because I am working on an older iMac with El Capitan OS, which has slowed my computer considerably, I want to "downgrade" to Yosemite. How will that affect my current Photoshop and Lightroom apps? Am I just asking for trouble?
