PS CS6 won't install on windows 10

Win 10 x64.

 

I have CC subscription service, also perpetual license PS CS6.  CC notified me of a PS CS6 update which wouldn't download and install.  Heck, I didn't write down the error code, something like UM144.  It wouldn't accept my product code.   Chased that down, followed instructions including uninstalling PS CS6.  I did that and downloaded it again, and run the exe file, but when that finishes there is no message and nothing at all happens.  Looking in the downloaded files I find a Set-up.exe, but it dates back to 2012.  If I run that, it says "Installer failed to initialize.  Please download Adobe Support Advisor to detect the problem".  That program seems to no longer exist.

 

So I'm lost.  Can anyone offer any advice here?

I had the same problem that I could not install Adobe CS6 after upgrading to the November 2021 21H2 upgrade of Windows 10. Changing the compatibility of the CS6 setup file, as described in other posts, did not solve the problem. In my case, I had to turn off  the core isolation of Windows 11 (Windows Security > Device Security > Core Isolation > turn off) before installing Adobe CS6. Turning on the core isolation was then possible after installing Adobe CS6. 

OK, I went back and ran the setup.exe as administrator, it seemed to install OK and accepted my serial number.  Probably if I had run the downloaded Photoshop file as administrator it would have worked fine also.

Hmmm...    PS won't run, can't open a scratch file, also doesn't have a preferences file.

Will pursue those issues tomorrow.
