Purchasing Adobe Photoshop CS5 EXTENDED?

Do you have to already have another version of Photoshop installed on your computer in order to install and use Photoshop CS5 EXTENDED?  Is it actually an "extension" to another program - or does it operate independently?

    It is it's own version of the program and includes additional features.
