Re: Activation server shut down for Creative Suite 2, Acrobat 7, and Macromedia products

Because I have to unarchive some old magazines I installed the 'free' CS2-version provided by Adobe. The Photoshop and Illustrator programmes installed fine, Indesign however doesn't activate after inserting the provided serialnumber. I checked the install-log and found out that there is a language error in the provided cs2 package. The installed Indesign version is the en-US version, the last part of the installation places a launch-icon in en-GB language. So the launcher and the software are not compatible.

Perhaps someone at Adobe can correct this?

I'm now dowloading the separate Indesign apllication, hope I can get that running.

    Hi Jeff,

Just wanted to post a last message, just finished installing CS2 including Indesign (yeah!) succesfully.

The problem was a bad block on the hard disk. This was caused by the previous owner of the macmini. He had deleted his account but left two unremovable files in the trashcan. These two files were blocking the CS2 installation. The bad block didn't show up while running the Apple Disk utilities, I found it accidentily using Omni Disk Sweeper.

I took a long time but with your pointers I got there in the end.

    With greetings once again!

There is no free version - what you acquired is freely offered for people who already purchased CS2 in the past and need to reinstall it.

    Branching to a new discussion.

F.a.s62691548, what operating system are you installing Creative Suite 2 on?  Was CS2 previously installed on the computer?  If so, then why was it necessary to reinstall the software?

Finally, F.a.s62691548, can you please confirm that you purchased Creative Suite 2, or another Adobe software title that was affected by the activation server shut down?  You can find information on how to retrieve your registered serial numbers at Find your serial number .

Hi Jeff, thanks for the quick reply. I purchased CS2 earlier and tried to re-install my own version from the cd's last december on a Mac Mini (G4) with OSx 10.4.11. I had to reinstall because i  no longer had an active version of CS2. This was installed on my laptop but the battery of my macbook gave up so that version was no longer usable.

When reinstalling from CD did'nt work I found out that the activationserver is down and so i downloaded the CS2-version mentioned in your and Neds response.

So yes, it was installed earlier and i have a serialnumber but that didnt work because of the serverissue.

Is it possible that some file from my own version is still on the mac and blocking the functioning of indesign CS2?

    Hope this if helpfull information.

ps just tried to install the indesign only version (us en) with serial number 1037 etc, but got the same issue. I can install everything but when starting the application it prompts me to enter the serial number again. When I give in the serial number 1037 etc I get the message that this is an invalid serial number.

F.a.s62691548, yes, it is very likely the previous installation may be affecting Creative Suite 2 from functioning.  To try to resolve the error, please complete the following steps:

    1. Run all available uninstallers in Applications/Utilities/Adobe Installers
    2. Download and run the CC Cleaner Tool from Use the Creative Cloud Cleaner Tool to solve installation problems

Completing both of these steps should leave you in a good position to reinstall CS2, F.a.s62691548.  Please continue to use the new installation files and serial number.
