Re: CS3 - Still getting Activation Error Message with new Installer

I've been running CS3 on Mac OS 10.9.6 for years then, like everyone else, last week needed to reinstall it following a hardware problem and got the MUST ACTIVATE window with pre-completed serial# and activation but no authorization number and no way to call or contact the server. I then spent over 4 hours on the phone with Adobe over a period of 8 days, during which time a technician took over remote control of my desktop, opened text edit to read a log then deleted (rather than save) 6 untitled files of mine that opened with the application. While promised a call from a higher level technician it never came and today I was told to update my OS and solve it myself.

I have updated the OS to 10.11.6 as instructed, had to then get rid of the included Java to reinstall the earlier version Apple provides to use legacy software, used the Adobe Cleaner tool and the Limited Access Tool and instruct them to fix the List Host but they say both report "O files fixed", obtained the new serial and repeatedly downloaded, uninstalled and tried again with Cleaner and Limited Access, trying to find and remove all kinds of files as suggested in various forums only to still have the same problem. I have now reinstalled the OS 10.11.6, replaced the included Java with the earlier version CS3 says it needs then couldn't open it STILL because of the exact same ACTIVATION window with pre-completed serial# and activation # but no way to get an authorization code.

I was really optimistic that post 38 would solve it, but when I tried it I could find no "registration" file in any library with an application support folder, nor anywhere else in the system or user files. I am getting so desperate since I need Photoshop for my work, have lost singificant income over the laqst week becasue of this and cannot afford to throw away $1500 worth of software. Jeff, you have been so helpful and patient in this forum, can you please tell me what I have to do from within OS 10.11.6 to solve this?

As another forum suggested, I removed MAC HD>Library>Application Support>Adobe>Adobe CS3 Design Premium>AMT.application.sif and that got rid of the ACTIVATION window, but then an error message appeared on opening the CS3 Photoshop saying there was a licensing problem and further progress opening Photoshop was impossible. I also tried all kinds of suggested Terminal entries and nothing works. Please-- what can I do?

    Hi Lindag19715948,

Sorry that you are having trouble installing and using your Adobe CS3 suite, as you have mentioned you have tried several troubleshooting steps already to resolve the issue however it still gives you a licensing error.

Step 1: I would recommend you to completely uninstall Adobe CS3 Suite from your machine using the uninstaller: Uninstall Adobe Creative Suite 3 and Adobe Creative Suite 3 products  ,and then run the CC cleaner tool as well to make sure there is nothing left of CS3 in your computer: Use the Creative Cloud Cleaner Tool to solve installation problems.

Step 2: Now please go to the following location and look cache.db file and delete it: " /Library/Application Support/Adobe/Adobe PCD/cache/" (for detailed instructions on this step refer to Resolve "temporary activation expired" error for CS3 and Acrobat 8)

Step 3: Once you have performed the above steps, please follow the instructions here to download a new copy of Adobe CS3 and serial number and install it: Download Adobe Creative Suite 3 products.

Please share the results with us.

Thank you so much for your kind attention. Progress!  But no solution yet. Have followed the instructions to the letter three times, each time downloading the CS3 suite anew, always with the same result: FINALLY got the window into which I could enter the new serial number, choose "never" for registration and then open everything except Photoshop CS3. Am getting this message every time I try to open the Photoshop application.

When using the replacement version of CS3 that does not require activation on El Capitan (OS 10.11.6), is it, in fact, necessary to replace the Apple-installed version of Java with the earlier Java SE 6 version OR should this replacement version of CS3 work on El Capitan with the Java version as installed?
