Hello I have Creative Cloud through an Education account. Trying to download Fireworks but cannot see it in the apps listed. Downloaded an exe file from Adobe-but will not accept my Serial Number. Please advise.

As you have mentioned you would like to download Adobe Fireworks CS6, you may do that using your Creative Cloud desktop app.
Please launch your CC desktop app and go to settings wheel in the top right corner > Click 'Preferences' > Click 'Creative Cloud' > now click the check box for 'Show older apps'
Now go back to apps list and you should be able to see the Adobe Fireworks CS6 listed under it, click 'install'
