I've recently reinstalled Adobe Acrobat 8 Professional and am having problems with MS Word "the Adobe PDFServer could not be loaded". When I run installer in Repair Mode, it fails to solve the problem. I believe I may have to re-install from scratch but I do not have discs. How can I reinstall?

Erm, causal paradox? You reinstalled recently yet claim to not have discs? How then did you do it? And on what operating system are you trying to install, anyway? Older versions of Acrobat are not compatible with Windows 7 nor do they work with newer versions of Office. Well, whuteva, I'm afraid otehr than upgrading there is no realistic way of resolving this, but perhaps with some more information we might still be able to offer some clues...

Hi Mylenium, circumstances are a bit wierd I'll admit. I transfered Acrobat from a dying Acer Aspire (now completely dead) to my old but still reliable (so I thought) Dell Inspiron 1501. had to re-install Acrobat after having to re-install Windows on my Dell Inspiron. My original installation on the Acer was with an Acrobat 5.0  disk, which I later upgraded to 8 Professional via Akamai Download - hence no Acrobat 8.0 disk.

My Dell subsequently had a panic attack causing me to have to re-install Windows XP Professional, at which point I lost most of my settings but not all my programs. I've managed to rescue or re-install most of them, and Acrobat works - mostly - but not when invoked from Word, using the little Icons that appear at the left of the screen, just below/to the side of the toolbar. I've tried the rescue routine but after about 5 minutes of watching the timer, still doesn't work.

I've tracked down my recent installation details and will have another attempt at a fresh installation.

Thanks for your help - do you want me to let you know the outcome?
