Recovery/Reinstall of Photoshop on new computer

My previous Vista OS died and I updated to Windows 10.  Could not recover previous PS documents and while I have the discs from the software, it will not allow me to reload the software to the new system.  This is an older student version but more than appropriate for my needs.  How can I recover the previously lost docs and more significantly, reinstall PS to my new computer?

Two ideas that MAY work to install and/or run old programs in Windows 10

-RIGHT click the program icon or EXE and select a compatibility mode in the pop up option window

-or Run as Administrator http://forums.adobe.com/thread/969395 to assign FULL Windows permissions may help... this says Encore, but is sometimes required for ALL Adobe programs (this is NOT the same as using an Administrator account) so follow the instructions, substituting the name and location of your specific program for Encore

What happens? Is there an error message?

This is an older student version

    What version?

When you say your previous OS "died", does that mean you had to wipe the machine and reinstall the OS? I only ask because you've asked about recovering files. You won't be able to recover them if you had to wipe the machine and reinstall the OS. Always, always, always keep a backup of your data!

Also, I realize you've said it's an older student version, but please keep in mind that the older the version, the less likely it is to work on a newer machine. At some point, you may want to look into the world of Creative Cloud Plans
