Reinstall of Acrobat X Pro freezing at "running package script" phase. How do I get the installer to quit?

I was told to reinstall Acrobat X Pro because a security update couldn't install due to some change that was made to the version on my machine.  I uninstalled my product (which worked fine), and used the link to link provide to me by customer service to reinstall it.  The problem is that X isn't compatible with the current version of the Mac OS (10.9), so the installer is freezing at the "running package script" phase.  After waiting for a few hours for it to complete, I had to do a manual, hard shutdown of my computer to end the process.  I tried the installation process again, but with the same results.

How do I stop an installation process?

How can I get Acrobat X Pro reinstalled on my computer?

Thanks.

How do I stop an installation process?

you can stop any running process (including an adobe installation) using your activity monitor.

i don't see any reported problem here, http://helpx.adobe.com/x-productkb/global/mac-os-mavericks-compatability.html

but you can check other user's experiences here, http://roaringapps.com/apps:table

and you can check how someone else solved the same problem (with a different version), Re: Acrobat XI Pro wont install on Mavericks Mac
