Question

Request updated instructions for Creative Cloud migration on Mac

There have been several posts about moving CC apps and files from an old to a new Mac, but they are all about 4 years old. How about refreshing this information, and consolidating it into one thread? Would the following steps result in a problem-free migration?

On old Mac:

  • Do a complete backup.
  • Sign out of CC desktop app (does this accomplish deactivation?)
  • Uninstall the installed CC apps (Finder > Applications > Utilities > Adobe Installers). Hopefully this does not delete my Lightroom catalog! Note that the Adobe instructions for uninstalling from the CC desktop app did not work for me; I only see a "View Tutorials" option, and there is no option to Uninstall an app.
  • Restart the Mac.

Do I also need to download and run the Creative Cloud Cleaner Tool?

  • Run Apple Migration Assistant to copy all files and remaining apps from old to new Mac. Please don't advise against using Migration Assistant because it's a necessary part of my migration process.

On new Mac:

  • Sign in to Adobe account.
  • Do a fresh install of Creative Cloud apps.

Thanks for your replies, Nancy.

Actually, what I am asking for is a Step-by-step SEQUENCE of actions to take in order to accomplish a smooth migration of Creative Cloud apps from one Mac to another. If anyone can provide that, I'd be most appreciative.

This is not complicated.  Use a good browser like Firefox or Chrome that accepts cookies and does not have script blockers.

Go to the download page at Download Adobe Creative Cloud apps | Free Adobe Creative Cloud trial

Click the Download button and follow the on screen prompts.

When you're done , use your CC Desktop App to install your other titles.  That's all there is to it.  See the help article below.

I should also mention, you may have Creative Cloud installed on 2 devices at a time.  If you attempt to install on a 3rd, your other installations will be de-activated.

Despite what the Apple Geniuses say,  you cannot MOVE software from one  machine to a new machine.  You must go online, download and install the Creative Cloud desktop app from which you install all your other favorite CC titles --  just like you did on your original machine.
