retreiving document using trial

Hi!  I downloaded the trial of Illustrator and my daughter just created a document but now we cannot open what she has saved it keeps offering prompts to either license number or start trial and when we click start trial the prompt disappears.  It is not happening with the photoshop trial???  can anyone help please?  This is not making me very enthusiastic about purchasing it.  cheers Jenny
