Slow iMac - Any suggestions?

My Mac is around 6 years old. Been running the original OS X since this week but now that I've upgraded to Sierra it's just brutally slow. I did download Java se 6 so I could run my older Adobe software on the new Sierra and wonder if this is the issue?

Why is it running so slowly and such. bumpy ride? Anybody have this issue?

it's time for an upgrade.

i had the same problem and upgraded my ~6year old 17in macbook pro to a 1 year old macbook pro (Apple MF843LLA MacBook Pro 13" Intel Core i7 3.1GHz 16GB 512GB SSD Laptop  via amazon) and got a smaller, faster computer for ~$1500.  i now see that's selling for more than $2k but you can still find late 2015 macbooks for under 1500 by searching.
