I have a son that wants to learn AE. I have an old Mac that takes AE CS6 that I want to install on my old MAC so that he can learn. How can I get my hands on AE CS6?

Which old Mac (specifically, look in Apple menu->About this mac) and operating system version?

Current Apple Silicon Macs will run circles around anything older, especially for video editing. My advice would be to pickup a refurb model with at least 16GB of RAM (32GB is much better but more money.) Look at the Mac mini computers, great value and not too pricey.

in the future, to find the best place to post your message, use the list here, https://community.adobe.com/

p.s. i don't think the adobe website, and forums in particular, are easy to navigate, so don't spend a lot of time searching that forum list. do your best and we'll move the post (like this one has already been moved) if it helps you get responses.

So what would be a way to put AE on the old Apple computer that I have?

you could start a trial subscription, and see if a previous compatible version is offered for the trial.

NOTE: your trial will automatically become a paid subscription unless you explicitly cancel.

make sure you're aware of the cancellation terms by selecting your plan type (at the top of the page here), https://helpx.adobe.com/manage-account/using/creative-cloud-subscription-terms.html

for info on how to cancel your subscription, this page describes the few steps involved, https://helpx.adobe.com/manage-account/using/cancel-subscription.html

if you want to cancel but are unable to follow the steps described in the "how to cancel page", contact adobe support.

there are 2 ways to contact adobe; chat and twitter (now x):

    chat:
use a browser that allows popups and cookies, and click here, https://helpx.adobe.com/contact.html?rghtup=autoOpen
in the chat field (lower right), type AGENT
be patient, it can take quite a while to reach a human.

    twitter/x:
    tweet @AdobeCare

p.s. if you're contacted by anyone (via email or private message), it's much more likely to be a scammer than an adobe representative.
