I have a student license. Can I install on more than one computer? My pc(win7) is dying and I want to install on my macbook(10.8), but I'm getting an  error that my serial number is wrong. Is this because I have to  deactivate my other copy? I have checked several times that I'm using  the right number.

    which cs6 product?

with most cs6 products, your one license entitles you to install/activate on 2 pcs or 2 macs but, not one of each.

with most cs6 products, if you purchased a pc license and want to install/activate on a mac, you need a cross-grade:  http://helpx.adobe.com/x-productkb/policy-pricing/order-product-platform-language-swap.html

you should deactivate (help>deactivate) any adobe product you are no longer going to use so you don't needlessly exceed your 2 activations.
