Switching from CS6 to CC (Windows): what are the most important things to know?

Hey,

after years using CS6 (and many previous versions) – esp. working with Premiere, Dreamweaver, Photoshop, InDesign (= designing for screen and print output) -- we now have a licence for CC ("Adobe for Teams"; but in most cases I am working "standalone" and only my results will be shared ...) and I want to upgrade/switch in the next days.

Is there a list/description/... about things, which are important to know or at least helpful for such an upgrade? Things which I have to know before the deinstallation of all my CS6 applications and installing the CC versions? What are the main differences about the handling?

Hmm, first spontanous question: can I use both versions together in the beginning?

With Dreamweaver in particular, you probably want to export site definition settings to STE files which you can then import into DW CC.

Additionally, copy your custom snippets to your DW CC 2019 App Data folder.

If you use 3rd party extensions, you'll need to assemble your ZXP files and use this free Extension Manager from DMX Zone to install them in DW CC.

DW CC has been totally redesigned with a new interface, menus and code engine. Some features like Spry widgets, Server Behavaviors and Fluid Grid Layouts were removed. New features like Bootstrap, CSS Designer and GIT were added. So this will be a whole new experience for you. Have fun!

... hmm, of all programs I rarely use DW or at least only some features 😉

So far I am using only Lightroom of CC. The complete switch to CC and uninstalling of CS6 will be done after a complete reinstall of Windows (because of strange blue and other colored screens of death ; ) ).

Important things to know

1. Keep working only as long as you have a subscription (and it can check)

2. CC isn't one product, it's an annual version upgrade. So you are stepping 5 to 7 versions in your products, and you can expect a lot of change.

3. You can keep the old product.

4. CS6 licensing will be taken over and won't work if you unsubscribe. Be sure you have saved installer and serial numbers for CS6 to reinstall.

Thanks for your answers.

As a kind of educational institute we got a "new" license of CC for teams (not so easy to get such an abo model after the "era of CS(6)") (https://www.adobe.com/de/creativecloud/business/teams.html) – with the license for using all applications.

Therefore answers (1) and (4) should not be relevant, or?

Regarding (2): yes, from time to time I heard about the huge changes from CS6 to the latest version of CC ... (I started with Adobe products "some" years ago beginning with with Aldus PageMaker...)
But in the past years I was still happy with the features of CS6. Therefore it was not necessary for upgrading. Therefore my knowledge only till CS6 was the reason for my thread and my questions 😉

Regarding (3): thanks esp. for this answer! Using the two versions parallel in the first days/weeks could be very useful.
